Greetings! My name is Dame Aoife Finn of Ynos Mon, and I am a resident of the Canton of Riverouge in the Barony of Endless Hills, (North Eastern Pennsylvania, USA,)in the Sylvan Kingdom of Aethelmearc, a division of the historical group called the SCA (see below). One of my favorite hobbies is cooking. Historical Cooking. I love to take recipes from Medieval or Rennaisance cookbook manuscripts and turn them into real food people love to eat. We call the art of translating old recipes into modern terms REDACTING. Redacting can be quite fun. Recent projects included a feast cooked from Platina (a Rennaisance Italian cookbook that reads like a health manual), and have been recently experimenting with historical gingerbread recipes---did you know that historical gingerbread ranges from a taffy-like confections of breadcrumbs, spices, and honey, to a cookie-like confection that is so hard when baked and cooled that it can be used like wood to build structures? In addition to these creative sessions in the kitchen, I make cheese, mead, beer and sausages from scratch. I aslo participate in re-enactments from other eras, and love to see how food has evolved over the ages. So, come into the kitchen, put your feet up, and have a cup of tea. Welcome to my kitchen.

I know there are hundreds if not thousands of folks out there who wish to have a taste of the past without extensive commitments from their busy lives. These pages are for those folks, who have a healthy curiosity and a healthy appetite. If, somehow, you should read this and wonder what the SCA is all about, please see for yourself at http://www.sca.org (linked above) . You will find the cooking section under Arts and Sciences. Happy hunting! Aoife
